He's A Corker

An equine with attitude. A get it done man who is built to last.
I loved the sun light glow on his muscled body and how bright his interest was on things going on around him.

Christmas has come and gone. Our snow has come and gone.....and now here comes our New Year.

I want to take this time to thank everyone who enjoys, follows and buys my art. Without you I wouldn't be here.
I look forward to another exciting year of creating paintings, being around horses and getting to meet new people
and new collectors of my art work.

Happy New Year Everyone!!

A Small Painting Of Acadia - August's Asticou Gardens

"Passing Asticou Gardens, North East Harbor"  , Oil on gessobord, 6 x 6" ©2014 www.kathipeters.com

Still trying to play catch up on work done in my blog posts, while trying to manage gardens, put up new horse fence and do all the everyday things that need doing on this small mid-coast Maine farm. August has giving us some stellar weather… and it is so hard to stay in the studio working on commissions and new original work when it is clear that this weather is not going to last and that fall will soon be here , with winter not far behind.
I did this small oil painting of a favourite scene we passed everyday on our way to Acadia during the month of July. It is beautiful in July. June is when it is heavenly with all the rhododendrons and azaleas are in blossom. But I also love the more subdued landscape of the July Asticou Gardens. I hope this small gem touches the heart of some other admirer of Maine landscapes.
Now I am headed back out to enjoy this hot sun filled August day. I have been painting.

Our gardens......

Two Small Casein Paintings & Horses Running

"Equus #1" casein on Claybord   6 x 6"
Two small casein paintings have been added to my body of work on my website, in the Small Works Collection. There is something about a white horse that thrills me and then add the conformation of a baroque type horse and I HAVE to paint it.......and I was happy to get some time back in the studio,as I seem to be a bit distracted with our new equine boys. But I am sure that this is a good thing!

But what I really need to do is hurry up and catch up!!
So many paintings to do...so little time!!!!

Three New Spring Paintings

"Bright And Beautiful"  Oil on board   8 x 10"  copyright 2012 www.kathipeters.com

For days on end, the sun has shone and the weather has been calling me out to the gardens. I have revelled in the spring ritual of pulling weeds and digging up and moving plants.I have also come to the conclusion that I have too many gardens and not enough hours in a day to get all the things done that I want to, or need to. So Nell and I have tried to divide our time between gardening and painting. I am making headway with both!!

I finished an oil painting of a mare and foal...beautiful Hanoverians with coats of many colors. When I saw the photo of these two,a photo shot by friend photographer Vicki Wright of New Jersey...I had to paint it. Vicki has some wonderful photos of mares and foals, and I seem to be on a foal kick....must be a spring thing too!! I took artistic license with the reference photo and gave birth to "Bright and Beautiful". Thank you Vicki!!!

So after working in the studio, I was looking for a change of pace and to take advantage of the beautiful weather, headed out for some plein air painting. I packed up my trusty little thumbox pochade and headed to the orchard with Nell, where I enjoyed painting in sunshine and fresh air. Our plum trees are resplendent this spring, promising plums and jellies this summer. I can't wait!! So in honour of their beauty, I portrayed their blossoms against the blue April skies. I painted in oil, on a copper panel. "Plum Blossoms" is a 6 x 8" oil and will be up on my website in the Small Works Collection.

And then I started another oil on copper with my bright yellow daffodils as subjects....Their color just sings against all the green that abounds this time of year. Here they are....also displayed in the Small Works Collection of my website.

Now we are supposed to have a  few days of rain and gray weather, they say. ..I shall not complain. We need the rain. April showers bring May flowers. I can't wait!!!

A Small Gem of a Jack Russell

On my trip to Kentucky I met two new Jack Russell's and this is my first painting of one little lady who was a JRT to the core. She entertained us as she ran around her yard...a perfect lady!
This is a small [5 x 7"] casein on board. It will be available on my website in the Small Works Collection.

My studio is a mess...I am finding it hard to find my paint! Tomorrow calls for a clean up, I am sure! meanwhile, our Addie seems to be doing so much better. She is being her usual bossy Corgi self and walks around the house like a queen in her E-collar. Her cohort in crime is fascinated with Addie's new collar. She is acting like she wants one too. That could be arranged!!
