Signs Of Spring

"Signs Of Spring" , oil on gallery canvas, 8 x 10" copyright 2018

We have raised several foals on our farm....two Tennessee Walking colts and two Welsh Cob foals, a filly and a colt. I have painted them all over the years. I could not get through this spring without foals. So I have painted some.....not ours this time. I do miss having our own foals running around the farm, but I can paint them.
This fine foal is feeling the joy that is spring, in a world with sweet new green growth and blue skies. He's looking for his forever  home!
This oil painting is on gallery wrapped canvas, ready to hang on your wall.

March Winds Promise Spring

"Wild Eyed"   Casein on board      12 x 12"
Winter was reluctant to leave Cob Cottage Farm [and Studio] and several snow storms have blown through, [literally] and left us with deep snow to shovel and plow. But time passes, and slowly the promise of spring is creeping into the fields and woods that surround us. I have yet to see a bulb peeking through the ground, but it is a given that this too will happen when the time is right. I have learned over the years that faith can help us weather the worst of times........and so I can sit here, awaiting springs arrival, with faith, that it WILL come.

I have managed to a get some studio time...and a few new paintings have been created. The "Wild Eyed" fellow above was inspired by one of my grandsons....This red head is Max....our eldest grandson.....and soon there will be another painting of his younger brother, Logan, to rival this! What fun these two paintings prove to be!!

"Joy Of Life"         oil on board               6 x 6"

"Mother and Son"        oil on board           6 x 6"
And then the arrival of spring makes me remember all the foals that were born on our farms, here at Cob Cottage and earlier on our Thistle Mead Farm in Pownal, Maine. This make me want to paint foals...and the  spring joy they bring to everyone who sees them. So two small oils came to life on my easel. They are available on my website....new spring foals looking for a good home!!  [Reference photos were provided by friend and photographer Vicki Wright]

If I am not updating fast enough about what has been painted in the studio....Please feel free to join me on Facebook   ......on my Art and Studio Page. Follow me on Facebook!!

Now back to painting....I am working on a watercolor commission and it is almost done. I need to get it done before the spring buds burst. I have faith that they will, soon .

Working In And Playing Out - New Equine OIl Painting

A wind blown flower now perfumes the studio.
Finally we have been blessed with a substantial rain. Buds are bursting forth all over our farm and gardens. But with the rain came winds and some of the blossoms fell victim, to lay on the cold wet ground. I rescued one hyacinth, relishing its heady scent, I have placed it in the studio. A bit of the outside inside to enjoy as I work.

Our Hawthorne tree is showy this year.

The plum trees stand decorated with white and yellow blossoms, and the honey bees' hum-song can be heard filling the air. I hope the bounty of blossoms means a bountiful plum harvest. Last year's was small compared to other years. We need plum jam this year!

I have another small oil on copper done....another foal...this one titled "High Heels".     I also did a small oil painting of a young deer. The fawn was one of several that I was able to get great photos of on a walk in our back woods. For this painting I worked on board, not copper......but over the weekend I was cleaning the studio up a bit....moving piles around and managed to drop the small still wet deer painting onto the floor. Needless to say I will have to rework that painting a bit more. But the playful foal painting is drying and can been seen on my website already.

Springing Along With Small Oil Paintings

"Spring Fling"   Oil    8 x 6"    copyright 2012 http://www.kathipeters.com/
The weather has been so spring like and singing of promise of summer. This is always wonderful! I have been the the mood for painting foals...seeing that I am no longer enjoying the excitement of foals being born on our farm...I am enjoying the antics of foals from other farms. This might be the easier way to get my foal fix!!

So actually since the last time I blogged....I have painted three foal paintings....two small oils on canvas on board and one casein on  Ampersand claybord. All three are available for purchase on my website.

I have been spending as much time as I can in the studio. I know I have commitments, but really, spring is in the air and I need a spring fix!! If I am not in the studio, you can find me in the garden!! [or at the barn shedding out two horses!!]

Paintings Of Kentucky Done In Maine

"Foal From The Farm"       Casein     5 x 5"
Winter came early. With leaves still left on the deciduous trees a heavy wet winter storm covered the farm here in Maine with a taste of what is coming in the next few weeks. That was on Saturday night. This Monday most of our snow is gone...the grass is green or ice covered.Time to get ready for the hours of studio time that winter affords me. Most of today I have been busy packing done works away and making room for new works to come.....and getting rid of some old work too. A cleansing of sorts. Maybe it is also the nesting syndrome?

One of the new works done is a small gem...5 x 5".... and is offered in a gold wooden frame. "Foal From The Farm" is one of Cobra Farm of Lexington, KY's foals....all cozy in a nest of sorts it seems. And then I also did a small oil on copper of the wonderful barn at the Red Mile race track in Lexington,KY. This is a 8 x 6"  and is also offered framed and shipped for free within the USA . "The Barn At Red Mile" is on my website.

Now back to rearranging the studio.....right after taking a fresh air break with Nellie.I am going to walk the dog!!

Spring Brings Foals

"A Yearling"                       Casein on board                          6 x 6"

Between shoveling and dreaming of spring I have had some creative progress in the studio.
This little  casein pictured above is done and available through my website's Small Works Collection.  The subject is a handsome yearling  who I met at Cobra Farm during my Lexington,KY  visit last year. All the yearlings were getting ready for the weekend's Young Stock Sales.......a sad and a happy time. Young stock were headed to their new life....no longer left to just play and grow. They had a purpose in life.....and the weekend  sales would determine that to a point. I saw so many at Cobra Farm that I would have loved to take home with me. Like I need another hole in my head!!

It is raining today.A spring misty moisty morning. The farrier is here trimming our horses feet. Our horses are left barefoot. They have not felt the metal of shoes for years. I think they like that. I am headed to the studio for the rest of the afternoon. I need to clean the studio up a bit before I start on some bigger paintings now....and finish a commission.
