A Fall Special Sale Of Selected Works
It has to happen....I have never done this before, but my studio is getting too crowded....and if I want to continue painting, [and I do] I HAVE to move out framed works. This dilemma is your gain. So grab a cup of tea, coffee or a glass of wine and virtually walk around my virtual art sale. It is a great way to collect my work at discounted prices. Collect for your own walls... or for that special person on your holiday shopping list.

These are just a few of the paintings that are being discounted. I invite you to look at the Special Sale Page... and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised! Nell and I need more room to stretch out and get to work in the studio........
Nell says "Shop 'til you drop!!!!! Woof!" :-)

More Than A Day Late-Dancing With Horses!!
I guess over a week has past since my last blog post.....need I say I have been busy? I have not posted since I announced the art show opening reception of "Women In Motion" at Couleur Collection Gallery in Falmouth, Maine. I got some lovely shots of The Portland Ballet's performance that was staged at the reception to every one's delight.......and as we stood watching the dancing that was staged in front of my artwork, a friend [and collector of my work] remarked "Dancing With Horses"!! YES!! It was!!....and it gave an entirely different and wonderful meaning to this exhibit for me!
After the reception on our way back to our car we met two fur kids who were looking for some attention too!!We had to stop and talk with them. They are some wise words to say about art and the state of affairs in the world today.
All in all, the day was stellar.
Thank you, Couleur Collection!!!
The show is up until mid November.....if you are in the area and have a chance check out the show....it is all about "Women In Motion"..........

Still Studying - After All These Years

My vegetable garden is in fall mode.My perennial gardens are growing rampant. I have been busy painting and drawing .....and studying.Yes ,studying. I recently bought several books in my never ending quest to tweak my artwork and stretch as an artist. I strongly feel that if I want to grow as an artist, I need to read and learn from artists past and present. So I study!!
But I have been painting too. The above oil painting is of a Welsh Cob.....our Welsh Cob mare, Victoria. She does NOT like to have her photo taken and dislikes even more having me doing a painting of her. What started as a plein air painting became a studio painting as she decided that she had had enough of me. And as the days get shorter and the afternoon sun dips lower and lower in the sky I felt the need to paint my last roses blooming in my studio garden. I just finished this 6 x 6" oil on copper......so two paintings done recently. I have been drawing too This is good!

. So what books am I reading now???? "Hensche On Painting" What have I learned? To get OUT OF THE STUDIO.....and paint outside to learn color!! And I am also reading "Childe Hassam - American Impressionist" So what am I learning there? [It is a big book!] that I need to paint more!! That being said....I am off to paint! |

Working In And Playing Out - New Equine OIl Painting
![]() |
| A wind blown flower now perfumes the studio. |
Our Hawthorne tree is showy this year.
The plum trees stand decorated with white and yellow blossoms, and the honey bees' hum-song can be heard filling the air. I hope the bounty of blossoms means a bountiful plum harvest. Last year's was small compared to other years. We need plum jam this year!
I have another small oil on copper done....another foal...this one titled "High Heels". I also did a small oil painting of a young deer. The fawn was one of several that I was able to get great photos of on a walk in our back woods. For this painting I worked on board, not copper......but over the weekend I was cleaning the studio up a bit....moving piles around and managed to drop the small still wet deer painting onto the floor. Needless to say I will have to rework that painting a bit more. But the playful foal painting is drying and can been seen on my website already.

In the mean time....I have new paintings to do.......

Tell Me A Story

The weather has been gray. My computers ....BOTH computers....were on the fritz and I have been feeling alone, isolated and out of touch from the world!!! But good things do happen and my desktop PC is back ....and I am painting and the weather seems to be warming up a bit. So all is not lost!!!
I have two shows opening [and opened] in Lexington,KY. where my work is hanging. The American Academy of Equine Art has their Spring Invitational show "The Horse In Fine Art" exhibited in the wonderful old Spindletop Hall. The show will be hanging until May 26th ...if you are in the Lexington area check it out. You will not be disappointed...this years show is stellar and I am very happy to have my oil painting "Angels and Horses" hanging in the show.Work is for sale in this exhibit...and it is a great chance to add you art collection!!

Now I am working on a casein on Ampersand Claybord...a neat substrate to work on. Almost as slick as oil on copper , but the clay gesso sucks up the paint and it all dries to a lovely matte finish. So back to the drawing board for this...I am working on my drawing table because the paint would dribble if I worked on my easel. ... I work as if I am working in watercolor on this claybord. So back to the proverbial drawing-board!!!!

Now ...time to feed the horses!
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
Our fields are green The horses feed most of the day in the far pastures and I find it hard to remind myself that it is winter!! The days have been warmer than usual and Nellie have been able to take walks with no need for her to get duded up in her barn coat or sweatshirt. We will enjoy the mild weather has long as Mother Nature cares to bless with this reprieve from winter's cold.
A new casein, titled "His Flock", is up on my website and I am busy now on a few small oils on copper. The casein, pictured above, was inspired by a man I saw a few years ago at a farming event we had attended here locally, and I have been wanting to paint him. But what was he looking at so intently? So I used artistic license and painted in his "flock"......a small flock it might be, but still important to him....a bit like how I feel our Lord feels about us all....his flock. So I would say that this painting is a metaphorical depiction of my beliefs.
This year is coming to a close. I am taking some time to rethink my goals for the new year [years?] ahead. There will be a few changes in my life, I know....but that being said.....I am looking at my "flock" and pondering life. Waxing poetic I retired to the studio.....with Nellie!
