HORSE UTOPIA – ART OF THE HORSE IN FLORENCE, ITALY.

AN ART EXHIBITION AND FUNDRAISING EVENT  FOR THE ITALIAN HORSE PROTECTION FOUNDATION

 

I was invited to take part in an exciting new event showcasing thought-provoking and moving works of art that is being held to raise money for the Italian Horse Protection Foundation, a non-profit association which rescues horses from cruel and life-threatening situations. Over 50 artists are participating with their work from all over the world. My painting “Shades of Black – winter #3” is my painting showcased in this event.
The exhibition received the patronage of the Mayor of Florence and the Minister of Culture will open the event.
 This will take place at the Porcellino Gallery from the 18th to the 28th of May and on the 29th at the Palagio di Parte Guelfa the final reception.  Then the art is being sold by silent auction and each work will have a card with information about the artist. People can bid throughout these 11 days. The Reception on the 29th is on invitation only for all the bidders and invited guests. All proceeds will go to the Italian Horse Protection Fund, a non-profit association www.horseprotection.it.  Warm spring days means outside time, gardens, horses and less studio time. I am working on 18 x 24’ oil on canvas and did finish two smaller caseins. I also sent down some new works for Equis Art Gallery inventory of my work. I hope folks in the Red Hook,New York will head over and see what they have there.  The works below are 2 smaller works I finished and they are available for purchase. Now back to the work at hand!

Summer Is Done [Almost] And So Are Three Paintings

The past 2 weeks we have had company ...family has come.... and gone.... and the end of summer is marching by fast paced and on time !! I have picked almost all the veggies from our garden.I have bagged and frozen bags of tomatoes and am eating my fill of sweet tasting juicy fresh tomatoes.How I miss them when winter settles in and we are forced to eat tomatoes from the supermarket that taste so bland compared to our summer's bounty.
In between the farm's daily chores and gardening ...and company....I have done 3 small paintings.......and here they are.

I am so looking forward to a productive creative winter cloistered in my cozy studio ....

Free Falling, Polo #5 and Snow Coming

Two small caseins  finished so far this week...and I am working on a third. The weather is absolutely brilliant today....in and out! Outside the sun shines and it's warmth must feel so good on our old horses backs as they stand sleeping. Inside Nell and Mittens soak up the rays enjoying a rare moment sharing the same space with out a hassle.Nell is always the instigator. But for the moment they sleep..... quietly together!!

I LOVE painting JRT's full of personality and this guy [seen below] is overflowing with it.I feel so privileged to have the chance to paint several works depicting him and his antics. "Free Falling " is one of the most fun of all so far!!! But I am working on one more in honor of Saint Valentine's Day......stay tuned....I am working on it right now!

Both the two caseins depicted here, are now on my website in the Small Works portfolio of works available for purchase. "Polo #5" is one of a series of small paintings depicting the exciting sport of Polo!! They also are in my Small Works Portofolio.

Back into the JRT painting, after a brief "walkies" with Nell in the bright sun. Tomorrow we have a snow storm coming.....sigh...........

Two New Polo Paintings

Two small caseins done and ready to be framed .But what am I doing? I am cleaning out... sort of. I am taking paintings of mine out of the office, off the walls and down to the studio. Having a real need to simplify and get rid of.....clean!!! Maybe a garage sale?.....if I had a garage! I am keeping a few of my favourite works hanging....but for the most part, the walls are bare and white. Looks good!

The white outside...the winter snow....is leaving. Looks good!!! Yes, it is being replaced by mud, brown and deep in places....but this also heralds in the coming of green..Spring! [No, I wasn't thinking about St Patty's day!!! ] I am sure I am not alone in thinking that this was the longest hardest winter. Maybe it is because we are not getting any younger....but the snow came fast and furious all December and January and then in February we were buried in over 34" of white. It will take a while to get rid of this winter's white, which actually is gray and brown now.....Spring.

The horses are shedding, the JRT is shedding.....and Mittens, the Maine Coon Kitty is "molting' all over our bed. Spring!!

So I am carrying paintings down to the studio, and picking what works go where...........
