A Radio Interview?? AND A New Show Opening!

Our crab apple tree   Lately there seems to be a slow rhythm to my days on our farm. Horses fed. Horses put out. Stalls done. Dog walked. Gardening attempted. Afternoons in the studio until evening ...when it's horses in. Horses fed. Dog walked. Evening time to relax. But then, into the mix comes art shows to attend, galleries to deliver art work to, and now even a radio interview. RADIO INTERVIEW??!!  This is a first for me……so I hope someone will be listening….And if you are, I would love to hear your comments!!  The interview is  Monday June 2nd!! It is at 1:30 pm and I guess lasts about 20 minutes. I still have problems with aphasia since my stroke in 2006. I will try to rest before the interview. If I am tired, words just do not come. I am left with jumbled speech, a brain that can’t find words and I find answering questions most mind boggling. So tune in!! You might have a pleasant surprise or at least witness a very entertaining comedy show??!! The show opens May 30 and runs until June 19th in, Damariscotta, Maine. See my Events page to see where I am showing next!!  I am so pleased to be showing in Maine and being able to physically be there to see my work hung, and see the works of other Maine artists. This state is full of so many talented artists. I have new works “in the works”…..so I better get painting.

This month has just flown by. With spring being very fickle and just giving us glimpes of her warmth and promise of green, tomorrow we have the priviledge of experiencing yet another Nor'Easter with snow and high winds.

I will be in the studio trying to get paintings packed and ready to ship out.

 

March did let me finish this new painting of draft horses at Wildwood Stables in Acadia National Park. Acadia is a spot where I get a lot of inspiration for paintings and it has been so for years . For over 20 plus years we have been going there and soaking in Acadia's beauty. We are so looking forward to doing that again this summer. If it ever comes. We are still waiting on spring to do her thing!!

New Painting Of Dosing Drafts Done

“Sleeping Grays” is done…. and I am back working on one of several commissions that I accepted. "My Studio Clean up Sale" is still on…so don’t forget to check it out, as I have added a few new paintings to the sale and will continue to do so for a bit longer. Thank you to everyone who has helped me so far clean out and gain back studio space for creating!

My days in the studio seem to fly by and Nell is always with me when I work. She works too. Squirrel guard is a very strenuous job…..Sometimes she needs to take power naps [too]!

 

My gardens are still providing color and eye candy. Soon though, all will be gray surrounding the farm, until snow comes and blankets it all with white, and the blue and purple shadows of the long winter light.

 

 

 

Each season has its own glory. I enjoy them all.

Respite, Another Painting Inspired By Maine's Acadia

 

Winds have blown and rains have come .The brilliant fall colors have slowly fallen, dulled and now just a hint of the brilliance that was, is left along the edges of the farm. Soon it will be time to hunker down and settle in for another long Maine winter. I love it!

My days have been spent working on commission work, but after several days of doing just that I HAD to change out and do some original work. As I had my caseins out and at the ready I worked on 9 x 12” casein on paper of big gray drafts that captured my interest up at Wildwood Stables in Seal Harbor, Maine. Another summer subject became a painting. Then after finishing “Respite”, I started second 9 x 12” casein of 2 Wildwood draft horses. I am so enamored with them, big grays with a rainbow of color reflecting off of their wonderful coats in the summer sun.  I work on the second painting today, but “Respite “is already on my website and available.
The rest of my Sunday afternoon will be spent painting…….. ”Sleeping Grays”.
Back to the easel I go.

Back Into The Bigger Biggers

This afternoon I finally was able to get back into the studio and set up my easel to get back into painting this 30 x 40" casein of the "Beautiful Blonde Belgians". Even though it seems to be taking a long time to finish this one...it is one of those paintings that seems to be painting itself. I am using my usual palette... but it seems to be coming together differently.We shall see when it is done! Once I got over the initial fear of the BIG CANVAS....I am loving the looseness I feel doing this.


Nellie has been helping me by keeping me company from the comfort of our bed.From there she can see into my studio... and also into the mirror to keep tabs on that canine friend of hers who lives in the "Bizarro" world inside the mirror. That silly dog barks at her and growls a lot...but has yet to come into the bedroom to actually challenge her...big brave dog that she is!!

I love this shot of her...I think I will have to paint this one!

Before The Paint

I am sitting here posting this...still in my pj's! That is one of the perks of having my studio at home!!! But I got into this drawing this morning and forgot about everything else! So the dogs sit and wait to be walked for their mid-morning walk and here I am posting about this sketch that will be put up on a 30 x 40" canvas this afternoon. ...after I walk the poor pups! After I get dressed!
Actually they have been busy watching from their deck perch as Les trims around all the gardens. I am sure our Corgi , Addie thinks he could do a better job!

This sketch on bristol paper is really too big to scan at 11 x 14", so I will have to photo it to really show all of it and my signature on the right bottom. As I explained before, I very often work out a sketch before putting paint on canvas or board. This sketch works for me...so I feel the 'need' to get into it.
I am excited about the possibilities! Strike while the iron is hot!!! No???

Draft Nap Gold

I love painting white/ gray horses. I can see so many colors in a white horse. But when I painted this draft, for some reason I approached him with a solid white,very graphic,and not shadowed at all. With a gold background and his bed of gold and yellow hay, I wanted to "keep it simple".

Years ago [it seems, in another life] I drew fashion illustrations, wrote a fashion article about what was "in" on the fashion scene in Italy. Now a days, one would find me in jeans, covered with hay, dog hair and paint. I would not change a thing about my life....and my training in fashion, in illustration and commercial art often colors my work that I produce today. My painting animals is a far cry from the fashion world.........but I love it here on our tiny farm that feeds my muse each day.

Taking It Laying Down

I have been very busy the last week or so......but I am almost done with a commission and some deadlines I needed to get through. It has been hard forcing myself to stay in the studio. I swear that I will get out in the sun more tomorrow ......transplant some perennials and did I see grass growing that needs mowing already??
I may even get a ride on one of the horses in!!

The 9 x 12" painting above is of one of the draft horses at Acadia National Park. This fellow is done in casein on Colorfix....a favourite combination for me.

More later.........time to feed the horses. [Isn't it always time to feed the horses ,or the dog, or the cat, or the flowers, or the husband...............etc etc....................
