Heading Towards Spring

  I  finished "Heading Towards Spring" a bit ago.  This is my first foray into the use of Dura-la drafting film as a substrate and I WILL be doing more. I'm very excited about using this archival , non tearing drafting film as a new substrate in my artistic repertoire. It is good to add to one's artistic skills and this move proves to be a good stretch. Stay tuned!

 Under the eaves of our barn's run-out sheds, robins have taken up housekeeping. Their nests line the eaves and soon the eaves will be nurseries for baby robins. The parents' comings and goings are watched by our horses, as they rest in their stalls.

Spring is a busy time on the farm.

Another Gray From The Series

Morning found me shipping works out to a new show in Kentucky...and then down to the studio I went. The weather was sunny, warm and inviting, but I kept focused and finished the above casein from the series of gray horses I am doing now....and also I worked on getting closer to finishing a commission portrait of some young men. I was able to open the back door in the studio,  to feel the warm and fresh air streaming in..and the two pups stayed with me as I worked. This new studio space is turning out to be an awesome place for me to work in! I can just step out the door and am in my back gardens, looking down to the barn, the horses and the fields beyond! Granted I am still working with piles of art supplies and boxes that have not been sorted or put away....but the space still works! YAY!

Outside the trees are quickly budding and my forsythia is in blossom....the 'daffies' are dancing in yellow and pink and purple crocus have popped up here and there throughout my gardens. The glory of spring...the promise of green.....it is a wonder I get anything done in the studio and not be out fiddling in the gardens!

A Parson Jack Russell Terrier's Den

Today the rain is coming down in buckets. The brook is way over it's banks and any snow that we had left around the edge of the woods, is quickly leaving. We have done the barns chores,cleaned stalls and put the horses back into their clean stalls....thrown down hay bales from the loft to keep them happy during stall confinement. The dogs got to play in the barn while we worked. Mind you that it took an act of congress to get Nellie,the JRT, out of her 'den' she had created in our comfy bed. There was NO way that she wanted to go out for 'business" of any kind. Addie, the Corgi hates rain like this too, as the rain runs into her ears!! So I dragged the two out, mean mother that I am!...out into the storm for exercise and barn chores. Misery likes company! Now cloistered in my cozy studio I paint.

My job is so hard!!! :-)

The Sunbathers

The wind howls around the house, but the pups are cozy basking in the sun. Nell keeps lookout for turkeys in the yard. Addie snoozes.... Life is good.
I saw this scene and have to capture it. My good friend and fellow artist Karen Pettengill just did a painting of her Koda dog sleeping in the sun....and our scene here so reminded me of her painting!

I am waiting on the farrier now, the horses' feet need trimming...another sign of spring. I don't want to get into a painting and then have to stop when he arrives..so I am posting this for my blog event of the day!
