OIl Painting of Port Clyde, Maine

I have started on several small oil paintings  from the recent trip last week to Spruce Head and Port Clyde. The sun was so bright that day and the late winter landscape with all it's abstraction really inspired me to get out my oils and prep some copper and start to paint. This is the first painting done...bright blue Cerulean sky and Ultramarine Blue water.....What fun! It is available on my website as it dries!!

Maine is beautiful anytime of year, and this winter has been so kind to us.I know Spring is not here yet,but the snow is melting,and today with the temps at a high of 50F here , Les had his lunch on the deck. That really helps one with cabin fever!!!

Back into the paint now....working on anther  6 x 6" oil and this time of Spruce Head. Taking a break from equine paintings for a bit!!

A Day In The Sun

After a weekend of rain, today Les and I headed out into the woods, to the back of our property, to see the fall foliage along the brook. How I love the smell of the woods, the cedar and pine, the wet dirt and composting leaves....all speckled with sun light. I swear I am going to head there in the spring to capture it all plein air....but this year I will work from photos taken today. I am busy with commissions now and upcoming shows, so my landscape work is going to have to wait.
It was a very healing peaceful experience this morning.....I needed it. We should all be so blessed to have a chance to venture into The Lord's woods.


On our way back, as we cut through our spruce grove at the back of our pastures, we have upon this fairies ring of mushrooms. I don't know the name of these mushrooms, or how fatal they might be...but I am sure that there are fairies somewhere near this spot that dance in the night with the deer and other wildlife looking on. At least that vision came to mind upon discovery of this ring!

Now back in my studio to work on a watercolor commission the rest of the day, I feel refreshed from my day in the sun.

Down the Pen and Ink Road

All the landscape around our farm .. and all the mountains and hills that surround us in Morrill, Maine.. are blanketed with snow. Maybe it is because of this that I have been drawing these little landscapes with pen and ink on paper...all depicting winding roads and trees and grasses. These little "dreamscapes" have been a bit of an escape for me, allowing me to get out from my paint and down from my loft and to sit in my big easy chair with my Corgi and my cat cuddled around me, as I create dream landscapes far different from the world around our little cottage.

Maybe too they are a bit of a metaphor for what has been happening in my life over the past year and a half. A lot of winding roads and up hill climbs............but nothing that I will not be able to conquer in time.

More about that later.......maybe.

The question now is "Will There Be A Harvest? Metaphorically speaking that is!??
