The canvas with the 'Beautiful Blonde Belgians' is in the 'uglies' stage. All paintings seem to go though that phase... where I sort of loose direction and have to pull the work back together again. The fact that my studio is so small is also a problem when I work on these larger canvases.But I am excited about this one...and I do know where I want to go with it...I am just not there yet!The artshow reception at Anderson Galleries in Locust Valley, NY took place on Thursday [9/10/09] evening and I have already had positive input about the show and my work. Hope you can get into the gallery to see my work and the lovely work of the other artists exhibited there.Color is slow, so far, to hit the trees surrounding our farm. But I can heard the sounds of fall and the sad passing of summer in the birds and insects around Cob Cottage. The yellow finch are singing like they never sang all summer. I wonder if they will stick around this winter cheering up the gray landscape with their sunny yellow? I hope so!Back to my painting....mixing my colors for the day.
"She Rode a Purple Horse" is headed down to Locust Valley , NY to Anderson Galleries for a show they are hosting. "The End of Season Reception for Old Field Farm" happens Thursday, Sept. 10th from 6-9 pm. If you are in the area do stop in and see my work and enjoy the wine and refreshments. I am also sending down one of my new small JRT caseins, "Leapin' Lizards".
Old Field , an historic Long Island show grounds with a long equestrian tradition is being brought back to life as a center for the Long Island equestrian and community events. I so believe it behooves us to take care of our past....as much as our future. Hopefully the new events staged there will bring present horse lovers memories for their future.
I am busy getting new works ready for the Skyline Farm art show due to open towards the end of September.
And Sept 4th , Friday evening is the reception of the Maine Arts Commissions grant paintings for the Freeport, Maine's FCA group show. I will be there...I so hope you can make that!..... and see "Experiencing Freeport- Our Town Through Art". It should be fun! It takes place at the Freeport Village Station from 5 to 6:30 with refreshments and music! Come on down!!
I have been invited by Anderson Galleries of Locust Valley, NY, to participate in an art exhibit, “Horses in Art” opening at the gallery on Thursday May 1, 2008. Paintings and sculpture from the show will first be previewed and exhibited at opening day at Belmont Racetrack, Wednesday April 30th at a private luncheon. How I wish I could be there for that! But our four horses, our Corgi and cat keep me at home feeding, cleaning and doing for them. I am often the artist in absentia. My painting “Gypsy Vanner and Wagon” is headed down south for that show. This is the watercolor and tempera painting shown above.
And THEN my mixed media painting “My World” took first place at the Grand National Western Art Exhibit and Sale that was held at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA. last week. This painting is done in casein, and liquid gold leaf……….a dreamy work with white horse and moon. Several of my ‘Shades of Black’ Series where also hung at that show.
Today I will try and work in the studio…with the sun and warmth calling me outside. My spring bulbs are peeping up in the perennial gardens and I even see my curly onion tops emerging through the ground in the veggie garden. There is much to do outside…. but much to do inside too…what a predicament??? Which way to go???
