New Casein Painting Of Horses & Snow

"January Snow' , casein on board , 12 x 12"  copyright 2017 kathipeters.com

We are finally deep in the frozen depths of winter in January, here in Mid-Coast Maine. Our horses are bored to death.... and they seem to be taking their  boredom out on the board fence.  I have been busy finishing up one more  pre Christmas commission that is now done and delivered.  After Christmas time was lost as both my husband and I were sick as dogs for over a month. But now we are out of the woods [so to speak] and life goes on. I am back in the studio each day and Les has been busy moving snow around.

"January Snow" is my latest casein painting finished and is now available on my website. How fitting a subject and title for this time of year!    AND  I am back painting!

Big Painting For A Small Studio

"INVERNO",  Mixed Media , 30 x 40"

I often have painted large works. I have always felt a bit cramped in my studio when I slap that big canvas on the easel and start blocking in the image …..But my latest large work [large for me at 30 x 40”] just came together easily and I never felt like my creative vision was too big for my small studio.  My creative muse soared as I took a simple scene of one of our Morgan boys dancing on his winter mound of hay, surrounded by bright sunlight snow, against the sun’s glow through the forest that surrounds our farm. I played with graphic design a bit more in “Inverno” than my work of late. I’m feeling there will be more work like this one in my future. Maybe a throw back to my years of graphic design and commercial art.

I used my oil paints, my casein paints, and acrylic paint and oil pastels in “Inverno”,  over the initial sketch done in charcoal. I played around with this painting. I think it worked!

“Inverno” is available …..Ready to make a statement in its new home!

Maine Winters Are Not Gray When Seen With An Artist's Eye

I finished a new casein work, a winter scene in our winter wonderland. “Forward” is now available on my website. I can’t get enough of the colors that winter brings to the landscape…the purples, blues and pinks. Add the copper coats of a chestnut horse and I am in heaven! “Forward” was inspired by all those colors. Who says winter is colorless???

Now back to the paint! New works in the work!!

Winter Horse Casein Painting & Feeling Like Christmas

Winter Horse Casein Painting & Feeling Like Christmas

Every winter morning on the farm, the horses are turned out to spend their days eating hay and meandering around their fields and paddocks. The winter months are lazy days for them In the spring we start back driving....but now you can find scenes like this casein painting as a daily occurance.  This painting is the latest painting added to my Equine Art section on my website. It is offered at a reduced price , unframed. I hope "The Cob On A Winter Morn" will make someone happy for Christmas.

Today it snows...The horses were out all morning , but when the snow started building up on their backs, they wanted in...back into their cozy stalls and out of the cold winter mix of snow and sleet that is covering our farm.  I am working in my cozy studio on the last of my commission work, and then I will have to get into Christmas mode. The Studio already has a small Christmas tree giving it a festive air.

Then after the holidays I have some great work that I hopefully will be revealed....Time will tell.

Now I need to paint!!
