Sketches Are Art -The Carriage Horse

"Carriage Horse"  Charcoal and Gouache on Strathmore Gray Scale paper - 7.5 x 10

The age old profile of a classical horse...a carriage horse..... holds so much strength and nobility if its bearing.
I am playing around with some ideas for some future paintings. "Carriage Horse".... This charcoal and gouache work is now available.

Our weather in mid-coast Maine has been primo of late. Days of brilliant sunshine, with cool nights produced lovely fall foliage to decorate the forest that surrounds our farm. The colors are  now gone. Our horses are reveling in green pastures and bug free grazing. Perfect weather for carriage driving. Not enough hours in the day to do everything we want to do....but lovely never the less. Waiting on the snow to start.
I have more work on my plate than ever and each day I awaken with purpose and joy ......ready to hit the studio and give life to new creations.

Paint and charcoal.... I paint.

A New Painting - Alone With A Friend

The first painting of 2014 is done. It is a painting that is really an image from my mind....a feeling that I have had the privilege of experiencing many times throughout my life. A sweet moment. Alone, but not lonely. A girl with her horse.

It feels good to have a large [for me] painting under my belt for the beginning of the year. Love my caseins, but feel a need to get back into doing some watercolors again. So I have a large [for me] watercolor of a driving pair in the works. It feels good to be pushing the paint around....love my watercolors! Each medium I use has a different feel and forces me to approach it differently. I  think it helps keep my eye fresh and my work evolving. I hope so anyway.
So now back into the paint.....................

New Dressage Casein - "Shades Of Gray #3"

"Shades Of Gray #3"            casein on paper               9 x 12"

Even though the day started a bit gray, the sun came out and Spring called to me as I worked in my studio, saying "Come and play...the winter was cold and deep, but now it is time to come out and enjoy the warmth of spring and promises of things to come." I listened but kept painting, finishing this one casein of a gray/white dressage horse for my "Shades of Gray" series. This is number 3....there are more to come...all playing with the discovery of colors in a gray horse brought out by the light and shadows. This painting as already been put up onto my website.........
Now I am headed out for a bit to rake leaves from winter weary gardens while, the pups play.
