The Filly Coming Five

Yesterday I painted the barn doors...and I also finished up this 12 x 8" watercolor of the filly. She has been the subject of my work a lot in her four short years. I was with her when she was born...and she is my helpmate when I am down doing barn chores. Maggie is always willing and curious to have her picture taken. A willing subject...but sometimes a little too willing and up close for long shots! But I LOVE HER EYE..... and so will be painting it often...and willingly!

My barn now sports a bright yellow door....as does Les' work shed. I have started the back barn door and prepped the potting shed door...all to be painted yellow. When I finished up the front barn door and was watching Maggie watching me painting the door.....I saw the lovely red in her bay coat against the yellow door...........yup! This will be a new painting I am sure!

Today dawns a bit cloudy. But I need to get the barn doors done before the weather changes...I know it will turn cold and wintry soon. So the watercolor I am working on now of a Cardigan Corgi herding cattle will have to wait a bit.

It Was A Long Winter

The snow is almost melted from the fields on our farm and our Cobs are taking advantage of the warm April days we have been having...and basking in the sun. Miss Maggie filly is doing just that in this watercolor done on watercolor board. [ image size 8 x 13"] She was very curious as to what I wanted has I snapped this picture.....but not so curious that she had to get up and approach me. Normally she would be 'in my face' and wanting to know what I had in my hand. Munchies maybe? But the sun was warm on her back and she was comfortable and resting......lazy one could say?

Spring is really here and a girl needs to take advantage of it.

It was a 'LOOONNNGGG' winter.

Our Welsh Cob Filly

Our Sec. D Welsh Cob filly [Thistle Mead Margret] will be 4 this April. She is often a model for me and inspires me to paint and draw her. This is a 8 x 8" study that I did today for a painting that I will be starting soon. 'Maggie' is a beautiful bay,with red highlights in her mane and tail...and an attitude that says 'I am a princess and very important.' Her training has started and will be continued if the weather ever improves. In the meantime Miss Maggie is enjoying being a lazy princess and best friend to my Tennessee Walker gelding Sundust's Glory Boy B. [aka "Duster"]

And I will continue to be inspired by the Welsh princess., our Miss Maggie.

Coming Three Filly

Yesterday I took the day off and had lunch and visited with artist friends. We had a Chinese food feast and then talked, talked and talked. How wonderful to have such good friends who share the same interests and tastes....if was a enjoyable way to past the day. One friend brought her Golden Retriever with her, and "Koda" and my Corgi, Addie, had their own party. Actually Koda spent most of the time retrieving slippers and various things from about the house, bringing her booty to us for "our" enjoyment! Addie did what Corgi's do best.......kept a vigil for food droppings under the table.

Today I am back working in my studio, and just finished up this watercolor that I am calling "Coming Three Filly". I had posted the graphite study for this in an earlier post. Now that this watercolor is done, I can work on the caseins that have been drying and are now ready for the finishing glazes.
