Another Shade Of Gray On A Gray Day

The rain is pelting the windows as I sit now writing from the loft. But a better part of the day was spent painting in the new studio space we have created in our walkout basement. This will be' my space', craved out of the limited space in this tiny cottage in the woods of mid coast Maine. I am starting to feel that it is my space as it comes together...as I figure where I want what and what goes where. It amazes me, as I put things away in this much larger space, how much I actually had in my tiny [very tiny] loft studio. And a lot of what I had crammed into the old studio will be weeded over and be discarded.I vow I will not collect!! I will not horde!! I will simplify!!

The above painting is a 9 x 12" casein on paper.I will post it on my website when it is done....and did you now I have a few papercut drawings still available?

Congrats on your new studio space! I'm in the middle of creating mine too and it is so exciting. A fun thing to have in common...as well as horses and mucking stalls! I got rid of some old work that I have been carrying around forever. It feels great to purge a little and make room for new work. I want to keep clutter away too!

A nice tag sale comfy chair, small table and lamp in the loft might be just the ticket for arm chair gardening next winter!

In this house we bought 4 years ago, I have studio space for the first time since I got out of art school...many, too many years ago. Made all the difference in getting back into intent painting. The space is actually in the area where the kitchen used to be..On the top floor of a four level house. I think a bachelor with no feminine influences designed this place back in the 60's!! It was the fatal flaw of the house that caused it to be on the market for over a year. Silly me, architect and all, realized that there was a big empty room below the kitchen, so we built an all new kitchen on the main entry level and the former kitchen/ dining area is now my office/studio. Plumbing is there and just need to finish up by installing a sink and I'll have a 'wet' studio. Paradise!!

I wouldn't mind some stalls to muck and the horses that usually accompany such!! Not at this time in this place...

Thanks Ladies, I know I will enjoy the space of both rooms now and Kaylyn, we are going to have a big comfy chair in the 'office loft' for reading and listening to the rain on the roof!! watching the trees in the wind, etc.! I will be posting pictures when we have it a bit more settled. It is taking longer then planned for sure!
